In June of this year, the government of India outlawed the use of 59 Chinese apps in India. In July, 47 more apps were outlawed. In September, 118 apps, including PUBG Mobile and VPN for TikTok, were blocked in a similar fashion. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has implemented today’s ban in accordance with Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, just like it did in the previous three rounds. In the past, some of the Chinese apps that were banned from India have pleaded with the government to change its stance and let them operate there. In order to circumvent the ban, PUBG Mobile, which is owned by Krafton of South Korea, plans to relaunch in India and has partnered with Microsoft. In contrast, TikTok decided to withdraw from India and cease operations there.
